During some of our time in Manila we stayed at The Ascott, a serviced apartment at Makati. What we loved about this accommodation is that it was a an apartment which had a full kitchen to cook our own meal and a washer and drier to do laundry - a requirement for any family who travels overseas. Here's a list of the pro's and con's I identified with staying at The Ascott.
Positives:
- Right in the heart of Glorietta shopping district. It is literally outside the apartment complex. This mean you've got an array of restaurants, retailers and major supermarkets right at your door step.
- Apartments are large, especially the suites. The living areas are generous which is perfect for small kids who need lots of space to play.
- Rooms are serviced everyday if required. They also do a lighter service to minimise the impact of their water and electricity usage, where they don't change the sheets or towels, unless you ask them to. I think this is great as I don't think sheets need to be changed everyday, well not if you have kids traveling with you ... if you know what I mean.
- Free Wifi, and it was strong too.
- Able to use the hotel's facilities like the gym and pool, which are well maintained too.
Negatives:
- Rooms are a little out dated. It could do with an update of new and modern fixtures and furniture.
- Not a lot of sitting space. There's so much room in the apartments but not a lot of places to sit. Sure there are the dining tables to sit at, but people don't really want to sit on dining chair to relax.
- Poor lighting. The living room only had the dining room chandelier and a side lamp. The rooms had floor to ceiling windows, but when there isn't anymore sunlight its really dark in the rooms.
- Price. There are cheaper places to stay at Makati, and there are also even more expensive places to stay around the same area too. You are paying for the location and the apartment style accommodation.
I would recommend and stay at Ascott again. It's in a good central location, the room space is generous and prefer an apartment style accommodation when traveling as a family.
